Hi Girls,
I just wanted to remind you about the Spring Horse Show Schedule and the closing dates for entries to avoid late fees. It is also important that we send in our stall count in time so that we have enough reserved for every child in our barn that wants to participate. I will leave the sign-up forms on a clip board in the barn office. Please note if you want full or partial care for the AA shows, so that I can make sure that I hire enough staff for the job. Jane and Catherine are on the Board for WTHJA, so I think we may be able to add the horses that haven't signed up for the first two shows without a big problem but please call Jane ASAP and let her know your intentions for these shows in particular. APRIL / MAY

In January 2008, Jay and Jerry Hirt and their four girls, Alicia, Madeline, Jacqueline and Julia moved their Appaloosa mare Jelly Bean or "Jelly" (show name: Always Faithful) into Magnolia Manor. The girls live very close to the barn in Germantown and attend St. Mary's. You may remember these girls from camp 2007. In February 2008, Mrs. Erin O'Brien and her 15 year old daughter Meghan moved their two horses Murphy and Dr. Zeuss "DOC" in "The Manor". One is a hunter and one is a jumper. The O'Brien family have recently relocated here from Chicago. Meghan has a younger brother and she attends St. Agnes. Mrs. O'Brien is very fluent in Spanish and has already been very helpful with our often invisible Juan. Congratulations to Audrey and Evie on the outstanding performances in Gulfport. Your hard work and preparation really paid off because you both took home several well deserved ribbons. We are especially proud of the WIHS 1st and 2nd places. Ms. Jane knows what she is doing when she has you work without stirrups until you can't feel your legs. Seriously, you girls are awesome and besides having a lot of fun in Gulfport and learning a great deal about your sport you were great ambassadors for our barn. Good work girls!! Welcome home Lauren Steiner from Jacksonville winter circuit. Congratulations on your ribbons with Popstar and the catch rides on Dark Star and Timmy. Congrats on winning champion on Timmy in Jacksonville and on picking up a variety of ribbons with Poppy. Have fun in the HITS in the SUN circuit in Ocala and we will see you and Popstar back at the farm around March 19th. Congrats on winning the Marshall Sterling award on "Timmy" and reserve champion among 32 other ponies in Ocala. |

Fungus season is among us. Lets be pro active to avoid the dreaded yucky fungus on our beautiful ponies. Be sure to wash your ponies with an antimicrobial soap after you ride or when you bring them in from the mud. Leave the soap on for 10-15 minutes, then rinse until the water runs clear. Then dry those legs very, very well. If you see any areas of fungus starting to develop please let Ms. Jane know right away and she will give you further instructions. The solution that Mrs. O'Brien recommends to prevent and to treat fungus works great and it is very easy and inexpensive to use. Add one cap full of Dreft laundry detergent to a bucket of very warm water and then bathe your horse with this bubbly soap. Leave on 10-15 minutes, rinse, dry, done. You should wash all of your brushes , combs, wraps, pads, blankets, etc. with the Dreft. It works great. Pour the bucket on the floor under the horse to disinfect the floor when you are finished. This soap can also be used to treat eczema and diaper rash on babies. Adults with yeast infections or fungal infections can bath in it. It is very safe and gentle. I have a bottle of liquid Dreft in the cross tie area for anyone to use at anytime. The more vigilant we are about keeping the tools we use to care for our ponies clean and the more we keep our ponies clean and dry the better our chances of avoiding this annoying problem. This will take some extra effort this Spring because the forecast is for a wet rainy season. All the more reason to get started now with our fungus avoidance routine. |

Congratulations to Ms. Jane and Ms. Catherine for accepting nominations to join the board for the WTHJA. We appreciate you representing our barn and the voices of the pony divisions at these meetings. Thank you to the Hartsaw-Jaeckle Family for allowing our barn to use the Jumper Jumps that they won in the auction at the WTHJA Banquet. We are going to give Ms. Jane a few gray hairs playing with these new jumps. Congratulations to our year end high point winners. You know who you are. I know Audrey and Little Napoleon scored very high in the mediums-Reserve Champs!!!!. Evie just purchased Montie and Mary ,but in just the few short months she has had to show them for 2007 I know she has been building up some serious points.Since Sidney has outgrown her pony she has been busy working on Ms. Jane's new horse projects while Shade is being prepared for a new pony rider.Popstar and Lauren took home the WTHJA green pony of the year award. They also received the USEF reserve champion of the year for the green pony division. I know there are awards that I haven't mentioned. Please email me with your exact awards so that I can post them. |

In case you haven't noticed a lot of new construction is going on around the property. We purchased about 45 additional acres of land this winter for equestrian usage. We have had some delays in the land development projects due to the frequent rain and
SNOW this winter. The plans include several large and small paddocks to make rotating turn out easier for reseeding pastures. We are adding a new road behind the old barn, before the creek , for car access across the length of the property. New run-in sheds and a jumper ring are in the plans. We are not only keeping the horse trails, but we are planning on extending them quite a bit,
and Lauren's daddy wants to build a cabin for camper over nights with bunk beds and over night run in sheds for the camp ponies. He also wants to do something with the old barns that are already on the property. I think they may turn into storage or run-in sheds but who knows? You never know what he might do once he gets going with a new renovation project.
